Hyundai Heavy Wins $1.6 Billion Ocean Energy Plant Construction Order in Nigeria
Spotnews 2008/02/27 23:19Hyundai Heavy Industries Co. disclosed on February 27 that it recently signed a letter of award (LOA) with Elf Petroleum Nigeria Limited (EPNL), a subsidiary of France-based integrated energy company Total, for construction of ocean energy facilities worth $1.6 billion.
The ocean energy plant which is to be built by Hyundai is a giant sized FPSO (Floating Production Storage & Offloading) unit for the Usan oil field at a depth of 750 meters, located 100 kilometers southeast of Bonny Island, Nigeria.
The plant will cost about $1.505 billion to build and the value of overall construction works factoring in building materials and equipments worth $110 million is estimated at $1.615 billion.
The plant with deadweight capacity of 114,000 tons is 320 meters long, 61 meters wide and 32 meters high; it can produce and refine 160,000 barrels of oil and 5 million cubic meters of natural gas daily and store up to 2 million barrels of oil.
Hyundai Heavy plans to complete construction by 2011 and conduct a test run of the plant in Nigeria before delivering it to the orderer.
현대중공업은 최근 프랑스 토탈사의 자회사인 EPNL과 총 16억달러 규모의 해양설비 공사에 대한 수주합의서(LOA)를 체결했다고 27일 밝혔다.
이 공사는 나이지리아 보니섬 남동쪽 100킬로미터 지점(수심 750미터)의 우산 필드에 설치될 초대형 부유식 원유생산저장하역설비(FPSO)를 제작하는 것이라고 현대중공업은 설명했다.
자체 중량만 11만4000톤급에 이르는 이 설비는 길이 320미터, 폭 61미터, 높이 32미터 규모로 하루 16만 배럴의 원유와 500만 입방비터의 천연가스를 생산 정제할 수 있으며 200만 배럴의 원유를 저장할 수 있다.
FPSO는 부유-저장 기능을 하는 하부 선체구조와 원유의 생산-처리기능을 담당하는 상부설비로 구성돼 있으며 현대중공업은 이 설비를 오는 2011년 말까지 제작 완료하고 나이지리아 현지에서 시운전 후 발주처에 인도할 계획이다.
현대중공업은 지난 2007년 1월 입찰서 제출 이후 1년여 간 프랑스 해양 전문회사의 컨소시엄과 치열한 경쟁을 벌인 끝에 설계에서부터 구매, 제작, 설치, 시운전까지 공사 전체를 수행하는 일괄도급계약방식으로 수주에 성공했다.
현대중공업 관계자는 “이 설비는 고가의 장비가 탑재되는 등 설계 및 제작에 고급 기술을 필요로 하는 고부가가치 장비로, 올해 10월 해양 도크가 완공되면 지속적인 고부가가치 창출이 가능할 것”이라고 말했다.
한편 현대중공업은 올 들어 지금까지 조선 및 해양플랜트 부문에서 올해 목표인 262억불(현대삼호중공업 건조분 포함)의 약 25%인 67억불을 수주하며 목표 달성을 위한 순조로운 출발을 보이고 있다.
